CBD FAQ’s

Cannabidiol (‘CBD’) is a non-psychoactive compound found in raw hemp plants.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that does not have psychoactive qualities when consumed in its unprocessed form.

CBD itself is not listed as a controlled drug under the MDA. According to a 2023 report by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (‘ACMD’):

  • CBD shows weak activity at cannabinoid receptors and is unlikely to convert to significant amounts of Δ9-THC within the body after ingestion.
  • Decarboxylation, and the subsequent creation of controlled substances occurs primarily through prolonged exposure to very high temperatures (100+ degrees Celsius). At lower temperatures, this conversion is negligible.

The ACMD’s position is informative and thus, it can be concluded that CBD in its natural form is non-psychoactive and not controlled under UK law. It should of course be noted that the ACMD report has not been formally adopted by the Home Office, and therefore cannot be considered fixed law, but its assertions in relation to the properties of CBD are helpful. Kushte tea is to be prepared in hot water below 100°C to prevent decarboxylation and converting into an unlawful product.

Terpenes are plant hydrocarbons, derived from cannabis, natural fruits and vegetables. Simply, they are the aroma of specific strains of cannabis. Customers who purchase these are looking to get the most out of their CBD products by enhancing the “entourage effect”, a recent finding by scientists in Israel. They are fluid in nature and can be diluted into vapes, drinks, and diffusers or even applied topically onto the temporal bone. Certain terpenes are well suited for relaxation, whereas others are more appropriate for energy stimulation.

CBD, a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, exhibits potential benefits like anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects, and may help with nausea and seizures, though more research is needed. Studies suggest CBD may protect nerve cells, potentially offering therapeutic applications for neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. CBD has also shown potential for slowing down the growth of cancer cells.
